JOSH
college essay coach
University of Southern California, Ph.D. Candidate in English Literature
University of Cincinnati, M.A. in English Literature; B.A. in English Literature and Communications
Josh has aspired to make a career of reading and writing since first reading Lord of the Rings in elementary school. The son of an English professor, he completed his degrees in Cincinnati before moving to USC to take on a PhD in English Literature. He has taught writing courses for a number of years while maintaining a balance between PhD writing and freelance writing about art (and the occasional story about robots). His dissertation work is about literatures that imagine fresh ways of perceiving history and the environment.
As an educator, Josh values the individuality of the learning process. He approaches writing as a method of thinking, self-exploration, expression, and relation to the world. His interest in writing connects with an interest in the outdoors, and he believes it can be a process much like hiking: a challenging, sometimes long process that leads to a rewarding payoff.
