In the 2024-25 college application cycle, more colleges expanded their options for applying early, largely by adding non-binding Early Action options to their already existing November deadlines for Early Decision.
Of the 400 or so universities we currently track, American University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Florida, and UT Austin all added Early Action deadlines this year, while University of Connecticut and The New School both added new Early Decision options. (Similarly, Rice University and University of Vermont both added new EDII deadlines for January.)
Many colleges are feeling the pressure to review more and more applications each year, so adding earlier deadlines provides them more time to review their growing applicant pools. Adding Early Decision also helps colleges better manage their yield (the percentage of admitted students who enroll) since ED admits enroll nearly 100% of the time.
The increased earliness of the college admission process can put extra stress on applicants who feel pressured to apply early to as many colleges as possible, especially when most colleges still don’t finalize their supplemental essay questions until early August.
Several of the most selective colleges in the US recorded their lowest-ever ED or EA acceptance rates this year, including Duke (11.1%), Emory (30%), Rice (13.2%), and Notre Dame (12.92%).
Others are bouncing back up, however, if only slightly. This year, Yale accepted 10.8% of Single-Choice Early Action applicants (up from 9%) and Brown accepted nearly 18% of Early Decision applicants (up from 14.4%). Northwestern held steady at around 20% (similar to the last two admission cycles) and MIT admitted nearly 6% (up from 5.3% last year).
In order to be successful in any college application, it is vital for applicants to find ways to stand out from the crowd. Our College Advisors, Tutors and Essay Coaches worked tirelessly to help our students’ applications shine through clear and compelling personal narratives, extensive preparation for interviews, and thoughtful development of their college lists.
With careful guidance and hard work, our students have seen increased success this year in both their ED and EA applications, with 191 acceptances and counting!
Congratulations to our students who were accepted to their Early schools! See below for a complete list of our students’ acceptances so far. We’ll continue to update it as more Early Action and Early Decision II results are released throughout January and February.
