This week, Murilo (from Team LP Brazil) is traveling all over the East Coast, touring and learning all about some of the best universities from New York to Boston. Follow him here for his insights into the various colleges -- what they're like and what it takes to get in!
NYU, Columbia, Northeastern, Bentley, Princeton, Boston College have all been checked off the list. Now...
Murilo tours Babson
WHY IS THIS SCHOOL AWESOME?
Murilo: Babson is a world-renowned business school, and the entrepreneurial spirit is strong here. The university even offers their students a Trading Room with 15 Bloomberg terminals and a super computer lab.
Students will learn with professors who have vast experience in the labor market-- experienced researchers, former CEOs, etc. Students here learn by doing things for themselves.
FAVORITE SPOT ON CAMPUS?
Murilo: Horn Library
5 WORDS TO DESCRIBE CAMPUS?
Murilo: VIBRANT, COMPETITIVE, GREEN, GOOD-SIZED, VERY INTERNATIONAL
THE "TYPICAL STUDENT" IS...
Murilo: Diverse with some commonalities: they're passionate, smart, competitive and business-driven.
INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE?
Murilo: 30% of the student body is international! There are many opportunities to live and study abroad, and there are solid alumni communities in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and North America.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS/OFFERINGS APPLICANTS SHOULD CONSIDER?
Murilo: Some great programs include the Foundation of Management, Entrepreneurship and Business (of course). Also worth mentioning is the BRIC program where Junior and Senior students study in Russia, India and China networking with alums, professors and local business people.
TIPS FOR THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
Murilo: Demonstrated interest counts! Babson is looking for students with an ACT score between 28-32 and IB scores of 35+. The university is particularly fond of strong math students. International students also have the opportunity to substitute their verbal ACT scores for the TOEFL scores (provided they score 100+).
FUN FACTS?
Murilo: Babson's pub on campus was named after the school's founder, Roger Babson, who was a strict prohibitionist who ran for US President in the 1920s. As an ironic way to honor him after his death, the school named the pub after him!
Check back in when Murilo visits his last stop: Vassar!
