The latest batch of college rankings has us thinking: about our perception of the value of college, about how individual colleges are evolving, and about what really makes a school “good.”
UCLA is the #1 public university in the United States, and the most selective of the nine UC campuses. A perpetual favorite of many students looking for a big school in a big city, they have an intense rivalry with USC, and our tour guide made sure we learned all the reasons why UCLA is better than their cross-town rivals.
This week is NACAC week (that’s the National Association for College Admission Counseling), and this year’s conference is being held in Los Angeles, CA!

This year, our students earned 42 acceptances to Ivy League+ schools and 201 acceptances to the Top 50 universities in the US. Our liberal arts-focused students also earned 28 acceptances to the nation’s top liberal arts colleges while our global-aspiring students earned 85 acceptances to the Top 50 global universities. The University of Chicago has just launched a new binding early notification option that allows participants in its summer pre-college program to apply for early admission before everyone else. It’s called the Summer Student Early Notification program (SSEN), and it has added a new wrinkle to the early admissions process.
