WEBINAR: Thursday, March 2 at 6pm EST/8pm BRT

Ever wonder how college applications go from ‘submitted’ to ‘admitted’?

PANELISTS:

STEVE

COLLEGE ADVISOR & FORMER MIDDLEBURY ADMISSIONS OFFICER

Steve’s commitment to the liberal arts led him all the way from sunny Southern California to the mountains of Vermont, where he landed at Middlebury College and discovered his love of psychology, international education and sustainability.

After graduating, much to his own surprise–and yes, despite the winters–Steve didn’t quite want to leave. He went on to work as a Middlebury Residential Director, focusing on supporting students in their transition to college, and then as a Trainer at The Posse Foundation, where he advised and selected students to attend the nation’s top universities.

Following his time with Posse, Steve returned to Middlebury and joined the admissions team. As a Senior Assistant Director of Admissions, Steve reviewed thousands of applications, served as an athletic liaison to numerous DIII sports teams, and managed the recruitment of students from around the US. Through his work planning admitted student days, managing the visitor experience, and organizing the multicultural fly-in program, he was committed to creating a more diverse college community and helping students successfully navigate what can be a challenging and obtuse process.

A strategic advisor and dedicated mentor, Steve loves helping his students connect the dots between their interests and the aspects of college that will allow them to thrive. In his free time, Steve can be found enjoying the natural beauty of Lake Champlain or hopping on a train to Brooklyn in search of his new favorite restaurant.

OLIVIA

COLLEGE ADVISOR & Former Holy Cross ADMISSIONs OFFICER

Olivia’s interest in college admissions began during her undergraduate years at Colorado College, where she interviewed prospective students for the Admission Office. She loved hearing their stories and witnessing the “aha moment” when they realized they’d found a college that aligned with their values and interests—just like she felt when she visited her alma mater for the first time.

This experience led Olivia into admissions at Regis University in Denver, where she worked with students from around the world while pursuing a master’s degree in Marketing with a focus on marketing for higher education. Following Regis, Olivia joined the admissions team at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, further cultivating her admissions expertise with a particular emphasis on helping students find the right fit for their values and goals.

Olivia is an intentional, contemplative, and curious advisor. She believes the best college matches are made when a student’s college list and application materials sincerely reflect their personality, interests, and aspirations. Additionally, her background in creative writing makes Olivia a thoughtful and inventive partner in the essay process.

Outside of work, Olivia can be found on a mountain, at the curling rink, up to her elbows in flour, or keeping her hands busy with various arts and crafts projects.

DANIELLE

COLLEGE ADVISOR & Former NYU ADMISSIONs OFFICER

Danielle began her career in admissions at Smith College as a Senior Interviewer and further developed her admissions expertise as an Admissions Officer at New York University. While at NYU, she became fascinated by the diverse stories that applicants shared through their essays, interviews, and other application materials. Danielle developed a strong desire to pursue a career that would allow her to share her professional admissions insights with families navigating the college application process.

As an Advisor, Danielle's goal is to help students craft personal narratives that will allow them to be impactful candidates, as well as to help them find deeper meaning in a process that can, at times, feel stressful and impersonal.

In addition to her endeavors in admissions, she has worked as a Program Manager at an entrepreneur support organization designing programs to support early-stage Black and Latinx women entrepreneurs in building successful tech-enabled startups. Danielle is a former Fulbright Fellow, Education Pioneers Fellow, and Program Associate at the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation where she managed the operations for four selective fellowship programs designed to support graduate students and junior faculty from underrepresented backgrounds.

Danielle's two favorite places in the world are Tam Kỳ, Vietnam and the Washington Square Park Robin Kovary Run for Small Dogs in New York City. In her free time, she loves going to music festivals, spending time with her miniature poodle, and indoor cycling.
